Tableview is a popular spot for riding, walking or jogging on the beach and fishing, although it does tend to be a bit windy during the summer months. As a guitarist and musician I played in bands around this area for many years. Our family lived in Tableview for a long time within walking distance of this beach.

My name is Brian Gough and my wife (Barbara) and I have come across from a small seaside town called Tableview, which is close to Cape Town in South Africa, to settle here in England in a small town called Pershore in the county of Worcestershire, which is in the west midlands. Our eldest daughter (Deborah) is also here with her two sons (Gareth and Brandon), as is our youngest daughter (Jennifer). They all live here in Pershore as well. I was born in Cape Town and Barbara is from the eastern Cape, from a town called Grahamstown which is known as 'settler city' because its history is so much part of the 1820 settlers to South Africa story.

On this page I have put a few pictures and a brief historical background to Cape Town, showing you where we lived and which hopefully gives you an idea of what it was like. Then there is also something about our new home here in Pershore, England.

Please visit our other pages and hopefully you will enjoy what we have for you!

Tableview-Cape Town. Our previous home town.

The mini-map below should give you an idea of exactly where Tableview lies in relationship to the City of Cape Town, as it sits across the bay facing the beautiful view of Table Mountain.

Let me tell you about and show with a few pictures, our previous home town which was in Cape Town, South Africa. It must surely rate as one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world and all I can say to our visitors to Gough info is, if ever you get the chance to visit Cape Town, you should grab the opportunity with both hands. Whether you enjoy the outdoors and sight-seeing, walking, going to the quite beautiful beaches, shopping or the night life, it is all there for you in abundance. On the left is the lovely Tableview beach close to Cape Town. Tableview is the small town, where we lived, on the west coast about 20km. from Cape Town. It has become very well known as a place for a good night out, having many pubs and restaurants, many of which have live music, some of which are open throughout the night.

Below is the beach at Bloubergstrand which is a very tiny village also on the west coast about 25km outside Cape Town just past Tableview. It has one of the finest views in the whole of South Africa -an unforgettable panorama of Table Mountain on the other side of the bay.

Some of the older houses are built of timber washed up on the beach. The fishing is good and there is a bay called Big Bay which is a famous surfing area which hosts international surfing events. When the clouds rest on top of Table Mountain as they are in this picture they call it the tablecloth.

Then a little bit further northwards is Melkbosstrand which is another minute beach village which is a popular holiday spot which offers excellent fishing and swimming, although the water is very cold. Delicious rock lobsters abound a-plenty among the reefs. There is a very nice restaurant built on the rocks right at the waters edge and rather predictably specializes in seafood.

Cape Town City.

Cape Town, the mother city of South Africa, nestles in one of the most dramatic scenic settings of any city on earth. Cradled by the imposing bulk of Table Mountain, Devil's Peak and Lion's Head, this is the famed Tavern of the Seas--a vital haven for the world's seafarers.

The city was born on 6 April 1652. On that day, Jan van Riebeeck gazed in wonder at Table Mountain, dropped anchor in Table Bay and hoisted the Dutch flag. Soon he had built an earthen-walled fort and planted a vast garden of fruit and vegetables. The new city had begun to grow. Table Mountain, often visible 200 kilometres out to sea, now beckoned like the gigantic sign of an inn.

It has many clubs, pubs and restaurants most of which are in old dockyard buildings which were renovated and this gives tremendous atmosphere to these places. Most of the pubs have live music and it is a huge tourist spot. I played as a guitarist around the Waterfront venues for some years. Some of the seafood restaurants are on the piers so one gets the smell and the sound of the sea. There is a large shopping centre as well as a 5 star hotel and an excellent aquarium. It is well known as the start point for the Cape to Rio yacht race.

why the gough info pages?........

I have been a musician since I was 18 years old, (starting in the 60's), playing the guitar. Although I have been a rock guitarist for all the years, I have now become totally into what is the continual study of jazz music. It is such a massively satisfying style of playing and allows for absolute creativity. Therefore I have put down my thoughts on the subject of learning to play jazz guitar, with instruction and tuition in the form of free lessons on improvisation and soloing aimed at the intermediate level guitarist. We will be covering scales, modes, chords and melody as we explore the world of "how to improvise and play a jazz solo with confidence". As you will see from what I have to say on Brians jazz guitar page, I assume a reasonable level of knowledge and ability from my visitors as I rather obviously cannot know what depth of knowledge you might have. Therefore I have looked hard for a website where the beginner guitarist might go to take up the guitar and learn to play. If that is the case with any of you may I recommend you pay a visit to a website where you can learn to play in just 30 days! Allow me to direct you their way, just Click here right now to see what they can do for you. It's worth it!

For most of my life I have keenly followed horse racing, from riding the horses in their work at the race track in the mornings before school and spending most of my time at the stables during school holidays, to studying form and learning what factors to look for, to betting on the horses, and then a bit later in life owning race horses as well. Therefore I have devoted a page to horse racing with specifically my feelings on the study of form analysis. I will discuss systems and methods and the factors involved in finding winners, also what I consider to be value in betting terms as well as a free tipping service specifically with tips for the placepot (place accumulator) for the main meeting here in England on Saturdays. Learn how to crack the mysteries which the big races such as the Grand National, Melbourne Cup, Durban July Handicap and Kentucky Derby pose. There is also a section on gambling, betting and sports betting.

With both my wife and I being very keen on cooking, we decided to have a cookery page devoted to Cape Town peoples and their types of food and wine, with a recipe or two local to that region. We will change recipes on a regular basis. I have now added a section on South African and Cape history to our cookery page which hopefully you will find to be of interest and will offer more background on the various peoples to will give you an idea of how the various types of food came about. I will also change the articles on history on a regular basis. Please go to the cape recipe page and hopefully you will enjoy your visit and return often.

My father was born here in England in Ardington (Berkshire) and we are keen to put down all the details and information we have of our ancestors in our efforts to research our ancestral history and perhaps even discover some long-lost living relatives. We believe it is very important to pass down to one's children everything one can about their family heritage. One very good way of gathering more info might well be through input from our website visitors, so we would of course love to hear from anybody offering some information that might help in our search for any details we can gather on other branches of our family tree. We also hope that there are researchers out there that will indeed find the Gough genealogy page a useful source of information to them.

Then there is a page on our part of the Gough family living here in Pershore England, with news, pictures and family information for those people who might be relatives or friends of ours and therefore perhaps interested in following our lives and the progress and development of our family here in the U.K. The family page will naturally intertwine to some extent with the genealogy page.

A couple of months ago when I decided to try my hand at drawing and painting. I have become very keen now and hope that with time I can improve and build on whatever degree of talent I might possess. I have now added a page where I can exhibit some of my drawings and paintings.

If you have enjoyed your visit to the Gough Info Pages, all that I ask in return is that you be so kind as to tell a friend about this site and recommend that they also pay it a visit. Please just click on the link below, I would be most grateful.
